The unclosable hospital: Telerounding and its implications for children's healthcare

Telerounding - This talk will share a story all too familiar across Canada and internationally about how a small rural hospital facing the most grievous of challenges - chronic physician shortage was determined not to fall victim to it's all too certain fate. Instead, decided to innovate and partner with a Canadian Technology Company Maple to develop a new program model called Telerounding - A first in Canada virtual physician hospital in-patient care coverage model leveraging physician capacity from across Canada to ultimately stabilize in-patient care services for a small rural hospital for the first time in years preventing it's ultimate fate.

Paul Young, Administrator for Community Hospitals West, Health PEI:

Paul Young has worked in Healthcare for the last 15 years in both public and private industry in several provinces throughout Canada. He is currently the Administrator of Community Hospitals West for Health PEI and has been in this role for the last 7 years. Paul holds a MBA in innovative management from UPEI, is a certified health executive from the CCHL and completed an EXTRA fellowship through CFHI. He sits on a number of health and community boards, both at the provincial and national level. He has always had a passion for working in healthcare as an advocate for system change to create a better experience for the residents of PEI through strategy and innovation.
